Blue Condition
Politics is not a Team Sport
Our founders did not favor party politics. One could say they feared political parties. Founders also called them “factions.”
“There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.”
- John Adams letter to his wife Abigail
“Factions get possession of the public councils. Bribery corrupts them. Personal interests lead them astray from the general interests of their constituents…” - Thomas Jefferson letter to James Madison
From the 20th Century until the present, this has been our condition:
The Republican and Democratic parties, or, to be more exact, the Republican-Democratic party, represent the capitalist class in the class struggle. They are the political wings of the capitalist system and such differences as arise between them relate to spoils and not to principles.- Eugene Victor Debs “The Socialist Party and the Working Class”, opening speech delivered as Presidential candidate of the Socialist Party, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Today we are urged sincerely to form a Blue Wave and vote for Democrats who will save us from the fascist government of Umber Shitface Trump.
I will do so. I don't expect to be saved by Robin Hood, the Magnificent Seven, Reacher, or the Democratic Party. We are lost. Just call me Doubting Mary. Play the music. This is a multimedia presentation.
